    Rules

    1.     Playing

    (a) All games should be played on the date specified in the fixtures book. No game shall be rearranged  unless due to adverse weather conditions at which time players should contact the pub first to see if games have been cancelled.Games may be rearranged for unavoidable circumstances, provided prior notice is given to the Fixtures Secretary and the opposing team advised.
    (b) All matches must start on time and no allowance is made for late starts.
    (c) The number of players must be 6-a-side and if any player is injured during a game he can be replaced by another registered member of that team.
    (d) Any person arriving after their game has started can join in and play at any time up to the last hand of the match but their scores count only from the hand in which they start.
    (e)  A game is played as follows:
    1st team plays 1 hand 2nd team plays 2 hands
    1st team plays 2 hands 2nd team plays 2 hands
    1st team plays 2 hands 2nd team plays 1 hand
    (f) Each throw of three balls by every member of a team is called a “hand”.
    (g) The ball must be bowled underarm so as to land before the second red line but not touching the sides of the alley until after the pins have been hit.  The ball may pitch before the first red line, but the feet must be before and not touching the first red line.
    (h) A “no ball” can only be called by the referee and occurs when:
  • The player throws a ball to land after the second red line
  • The ball touches the side of the alley before the pins are hit
  • The player’s foot or any part of his body touches or goes beyond the first red line before the pins have been hit.
  • When a “no ball” is thrown the ball is lost without any score and any pins knocked down are not replaced.  If the first ball is a “no ball” and all the pins are knocked down, there is no score and the last two balls are forfeit.  If the second ball is a “no ball” and knocks down all the pins left in play from the first ball, the pins knocked down are lost and the third ball is forfeit.  Only the pins knocked down by the fair ball count.
    (i) The King pin must be placed in the centre of the diamond surrounded by the smaller pins, each on a spot.
    (j) Players of the opposing team must pick up the pins and not stand behind the pins in the well when a player is throwing.  Any pins accidentally knocked down during a game must be replaced.
    (k) Any team using foul, abusive or offensive language or damaging the skittles or alley in any way shall be warned of their behaviour by the referee.  The referee has the right to abandon the game and refer the matter to the Committee who will then take the appropriate action.

    2.     Scoring

    (a) The maximum score possible in one hand is 27 pins, i.e. 9 pins with each ball.
    (b) The score must be called only by the referee and put on the board by a member of the playing team.
    (c) A score-card must be completed for each game with the captain on the night signing on behalf of his team and placing it in the box provided.
    (d) Points: 2-Win; 1-Draw.
    (e) In the event of a draw at the end of the season the teams will have a play-off.
    (f) If a score-card is not filled in correctly in respect of the scores of each player or the team, the lowest total will be taken as the correct one.

      3.     Referee

    (a) The team not bowling (i.e. picking up) may provide a referee who must identify himself/herself prior to the commencement of the game.
    (b) The referee is in complete charge of the game and his decision is final on the night.  He may, at his discretion, stop any game if he feels that any team is time wasting or not complying with his decisions.
    (c) Complaints about referees’ decisions must be made in writing (within 48 hours) to the Committee who will meet as soon as practicable and decide on any necessary action.  The Committee decision is final.

     4 .     Fines

    (a) Non attendance of a team without prior notification to the Fixtures Secretary of at least:
    24 hours                                                      1 point deducted
    Fielding an un-registered player                     1 point deducted
    A score card must be completed for all Knockout matches except for the individual and mixed pairs Knockouts.  Fines will be imposed for Knockout matches on the same basis as for league matches.

    5.     Registration

    (a) Existing teams wishing to play the following season must be represented at the AGM by a registered player of that team and have paid a registration fee (equal to six times the current subscription fee) prior to the meeting.  Teams wishing to change their name must notify the Committee before the AGM.  Any team has the option to pay a one-off payment at the start of the season equal to ten times the annual subscription fee.  This will register a maximum of 15 players.
    (b) New teams wishing to enter the league must be represented at the AGM by a player intending to play for that team and will be placed on the waiting list if there are no vacancies.
    (c) Players are allowed to play for ONE team only during the season .
    (d) Only registered players may play in the league and knockouts.  For the league and general knockouts players can only play for the team for which they are registered.  Non-registered players may be signed on for the mixed pairs knockout only, by paying 50p before the competition starts providing one of the pair is a registered league player.  If an un-registered player is fielded the offending team will be deemed to have lost the game irrespective of the result and the opposing team will be awarded the points.  The pin score of the offending team will be counted as NIL.    The fine for fielding an un-registered player is one point deducted.
    (e) Registration of players must be made by completing the registration form.  Registration may be made on the night on which the new player is to play and should be signed by the team captain and witnessed by the opposing team captain.  The form should then be placed in the fixtures box with the current subscription fee per player per season reduced to half the current subscription fee for players signing after the first half of the season has been completed.
    (f) Any player signed on the night must have the registration form in the box before starting to play.

     6 .     Aggregate/ Average Trophies

    (a) For the team aggregate trophy, if a team concedes a match without giving at least 24 hours notice to the Fixtures Secretary they will be treated as having scored zero pins in that match.  If a team receives a walk-over or concedes a match but gives at least 24 hours notice to the Fixtures Secretary their score of pins in that match will be the average of the pins they score in that season.
    (b) To qualify for the individual average trophy, a player must have played a minimum of half of their team’s league games.
